Providing a complete HVAC system for a food processing plant

Daikin recently supplied a complete HVAC system to meet the cooling needs of a food processing plant in Hungary. The end user operates in the supplements business, producing plant-based supplements including vegan proteins.

About the project

The food processing plant uses advanced technology to ensure the optimal use of plant raw materials, production of functional protein ingredients, and applications for high-quality vegan and vegetarian foods. This utilises their successfully developed and patented process for the holistic use of sunflower seeds, which requires innovative technologies and a HVAC system that is able to support them. 

Daikin’s HVAC system will be used for process cooling of stainless steel pipes, tanks, and components, as well as distributing cooling in rooms and storage facilities.


More about the project, the solution and the product

Environmental sustainability, reliability, and energy efficiency were extremely important for this project. Sustainability was addressed by using chillers from the Daikin Bluevolution range, which uses R-32 refrigerant that ensures low CO2 direct and indirect emissions and allows for reclamation possibilities.

The energy efficiency is the most interesting aspect.



Daikin met the plant’s energy efficiency needs by using a natural migration-free cooling option that turns off the chiller compressors when the outdoor temperatures are low. This uses the low outdoor temperatures to chill water and save energy.

Daikin’s natural migration solution is glycol-free on the water side, which reduces maintenance requirements and avoids the risk of contamination in process cooling applications. It was very important for the end user that the HVAC system was safe in terms of potential contamination as well as being efficient.
